What to know about Homecoming 2021

With last year’s homecoming dance canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SJC students have been excitedly planning for months for this year’s festivities.

SJC staff has worked closely with students to ensure a safe and fun time for all. Ms. Jillian Bastow, dean of the class of 2025, has been integrally involved in planning the dance with the Student Government Association.

The biggest alteration this year is that no outside dates are permitted to attend, only SJC students. While this is an unfortunate change for those who had already invited dates from other high schools, Ms. Bastow said, “The pandemic is still very much present in our lives, which is why we must continue to make these types of decisions. Allowing outside students would draw between 300 and 400 more people to an indoor event where we usually have at least 1,000 students.”

The dance will start at 8:30 p.m. to give everyone enough time after cheering on the Cadets football team against Our Lady of Good Counsel on our home field. It will be held in the gym and St. John’s Center for Performance and Leadership which opened in fall 2020. Depending on the number of people who attend, the auditorium may also be used.

Masks will be required indoors for all attendees. Drinks will be served but no food. So, those craving Chick-fil-A fix will have to go before or after HoCo.
