Christmastime in the District

Christmas is a magical no matter where in the world you are, but D.C. has some of the most incredible attractions you can find. The nation’s capital is beautiful on its own, but after the spirit of the holidays is added, it’s practically heaven.

U.S. Botanic Gardens
During the holidays, the botanic gardens go all out. What is usually an already gorgeous museum, known for its natural beauty and expressive, abundant plants and flowers, is turned into a winter wonderland. Workers dedicate themselves to creating replicas of the D.C. monuments out of plants and nothing more. Every year, there is a train exhibit that spans an entire hall of the museum and is truly a sight to see.

Visit the Capitol
On the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, there is an incredible Christmas tree that people fight the commute just to visit. It is lit up and decorated with many decorations and lights, and surrounding the one big tree, are other, smaller trees, decorated to represent each of the 50 U.S. States.

Walk Around the monuments
Visiting the monuments is a year-round tourist attraction. Nonetheless, taking visiting relatives to them during the holidays is always a treat. Many monuments are decorated for the season, which makes the trip even more rewarding.

Go Ice Skating
Ice skating is a universal winter activity. Silver Spring, Washington Harbor, Navy Yard and The Wharf all have rinks for you to spend quality time with family and friends and pick up a new skill along the way.

Visit ARTECHOUSE
ARTECHOUSE is a modern museum that honors the modern world by utilizing technology and light to create art. Their exhibit from December until January 5 is called “Aurora,” and is inspired by the northern lights.
