Advice with Allie: How to make the most of each year
School can be very difficult and stressful, but there are many ways to make it a little better. Here is some advice for all grades on how to get through the year easier.
Freshmen
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Join clubs that interest you. Go to Froshmore and Homecoming with your friends. Meet new people. High school is very different from middle school and has a heavier workload, so make sure to turn in your homework on time and do not skip class.
Sophomores
Sophomore year is probably the best year to have fun. You have met a lot more people than freshman year, but do not have to worry as much about college preparation. Do not take this year for granted, because it goes by very fast. Continue to meet people, join clubs, and choose interesting electives.
Juniors
This year is the most important in terms of college. Work hard and do not procrastinate on your homework. Do not be afraid to ask for help from teachers and counselors. Research different colleges and find the perfect one for you, as well as finding scholarships that are a fit for you. Study hard for tests, and complete all assignments on time if possible. Prepare for standardized tests. Think about college majors and what interests you and start visiting schools. Also, make sure to stay organized in all your classes, especially APs and honors if you are taking them. Although it is difficult, still find time for friends, extracurriculars, and taking time to de-stress.
Seniors
This is your last year before college, so make the most of it. Branch out and try something new. Spend as much time with your friends and family as you can before college. Do not worry if you don’t have your life totally planned out; you have plenty of time. Show school spirit and attend all the dances, especially Prom. Don’t let senioritis take over, even though school does not seem important. Still use this time to continue and learn new things. And finally, enjoy your last year of high school and make it the best.
