Best of the Decade: Songs

As the decade comes to a close, we reminisce on our favorite songs that have been released throughout the past years. The genres that dominated the charts this decade were pop and hip hop; latin music has also made a huge come up in the music industry this decade. Here are 10 of my songs from this decade.

1. “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar

“Alright” is a Hip op song released in 2015. It’s a song about police brutality in the black community and the government being against people of color. It’s also been the theme song for the Black Lives Matter Movement. I like this song because it hypes me up and assures me that even though the world is filled with all these problems, at the end of the day I’ll be alright.

2. “Run the World” by Beyoncé

“Run the World” is a contemporary R&B song released in 2011. It’s a song about female empowerment and how girls run the world. I like this song because it makes me feel confident and gets me in a good mood.

3. “Thinking out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

“Thinking out Loud” is a more soulful pop song released in 2014. It’s a love song talking about how this man will love this woman no matter what the obstacle is. This song is on my list because Ed Sheeran has an amazing voice and it has a nice sound and rhythm.

4. “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish

“Bad Guy” is a pop song released in 2019 and is number four on the list because it is super catchy. It makes listeners feel confident and pumped up. It won a MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song.

5. “God Is Woman” by Arianna Grande

“God Is Woman” is a pop song released in 2018. /It is a song that empowers females and shows the strength of womanhood. I like it because it has a nice soothing sound and shows off Arianna Grande’s vocal range.

6. “Rap God” by Eminem

“Rap God” is a hip hop song released in 2013. Eminem holds a world record for having 1,560 words in this song, saying them at an average of 4.28 words per second. I like this song because it’s pretty fast-paced and catchy.

7. “We are Young” by fun

“We are Young” is a pop song released in 2012 and it won a Grammy for Song of the Year. It’s about living your life to the fullest while you are young. This is number seven on the list because it makes me feel free, gives me good vibes, and makes me feel like I have no worries.

8. “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons

“Radioactive” is an alternative song released 2012. I like this song because it has a nice beat and flow and I really like Dan Reynolds vocals in this song.

9. “Counting Stars” by One Republic

“Counting Stars” was released in 2013 and is about how this person is stressed because they don’t know what they exactly want to do with their life. I admire Ryan Tedder’s vocals and the sound of the drums.

10. “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore

“Ain’t It Fun was released in 2014 and is number 10 on the list because it was very popular this decade and it has a cheerful and upbeat sound. It talks about the disappointments in life and giving the message that the world doesn’t revolve around you and you have it figure it out on your own.
