BSU Starts the Year Strong with a Packed First Meeting

Last Friday during community time, the Black Student Union (BSU) held its first meeting of the year, drawing a large and enthusiastic turnout from students across all grade levels. Senior leaders Brooke Lancaster, R.J. Bernard, Osai Bintie, Addison Kafele, Ari Slade, and Giselle Grant introduced themselves, shared BSU’s mission statement and goals for the year, and led members in a fun singing game.
The BSU’s mission is to foster a supportive community that uplifts and empowers Black students while promoting cultural awareness, unity, and leadership. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive space to celebrate Black identity and educate the wider community about the richness and diversity of the Black experience.
Looking ahead, the BSU will meet once a month on Fridays during community time. The group also plans to organize community service activities and social events with other BSUs across the DMV area.
