Cadets Bake: Christmas Cookie Recipe
Gingerbread Kids
Ingredients:
– 2 ripe bananas
– 4 cups flour
– 1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
– 1 tsp. baking soda
– 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
– 1/2 cup butter, softened
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 1/2 cup molasses
Instructions:
1) Purée bananas in a blender
2) Combine flour, ginger, baking soda, and cinnamon in mixing bowl
3) In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until it is light and fluffy
4) Beat in molasses and bananas until blended
5) Stir in flour mixture until fully blended
6) Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour
7) Preheat oven to 375°F
8) Roll out dough and cut into desired shapes
9) Place on cookie sheets and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until just brown around the edges
10) Cool on wire racks and decorate as desired with icing and candies
Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
– 3/4 cup shortening
– 1 cup sugar
– 2 eggs
– 1 tsp. vanilla
– 1 tsp. lemon flavoring
– 1 tsp. baking powder
– 1 tsp. salt
– 2 1/2 cups flour
Instructions:
1) Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and lemon flavoring together in bowl
2) In a separate bowl, stir flour, baking powder, and salt together and then add to other bowl
3) Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour
4) Preheat oven to 400°F
5) Roll out dough and cut into desired shapes
6) Place on cookie sheets and bake for 6 to 8 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden brown
7) Cool on wire racks and decorate as desired with icing and candies
