Cadets Compete in National Softball Tournament
During the week of July 12-16, the Nationals softball team represented Washington, DC, in the Jenny Finch Classic Softball Tournament here in Washington, DC. The team included SJC softball players Heaven Glass ’18, Ashleigh Fultz ’18, Raye Thomas ’19, Haile Proctor ’19 and Marakah Dennis ’19.
While dominating on the field, they also participated in lots of the All-Star week activities, including the Home Run Derby, Fanfest, Playball Park, All-Star Futures Game and the All-Star Legends and Celebrity Game.
The Nationals made it all the way to the championship game, but came out with the short end of the stick. Even with that upset, Thomas said the classic was “a really fun experience” and that they got the VIP experience and represented their city in a tournament against teams from all around the country.
The girls were asked to try out for this team and Proctor said they agreed because the girls “thought it would be a good opportunity and experience.” This team even had the great Jenny Finch in their dugout cheering them on during a few games, which Glass said was “really amazing.”
