Christian Watson '22 commits to the U
If you follow St. John’s basketball, then you might have heard of one of SJC’s star players, Christian Watson. Christian is a 6’6, 192 pound, three star recruit who is ranked number one in dc and number 140 in the country according to 247sports.com and is ranked 3 in the state and 87th overall according to ESPN.com. Christian is a skilled player who can shoot well and can finish strong at the rim. Over the summer He made his commitment to the University of Miami.
Watson said he made his visit to the Miami Hurricanes and liked it so much that he canceled his other visits and made his commitment. 247sports.com reports that Miami Hurricanes made their initial offer on June 21, 2021 and Watson committed on September 1, 2021. Watson also said that it was a close decision between Miami and Georgetown. For Watson, the difference between the two schools is the opportunity to play right away and the opportunity to play in the ACC.
Watson said that he has worked hard to get to this point. He said that he has worked every day with a trainer since second grade. Also, at St. John’s, he’s always in the gym and consistently works really hard.
Head coach for varsity basketball Pat Behan said that he is extremely excited for Watson to get this opportunity. He also validated the fact that Watson puts in a ton of hard work in and really developed his game over the last 4 years. He said that Watson is ready to play a vital role as a leader for St. John’s varsity basketball this year.
In a tough WCAC conference Watson will have plenty of opportunities to prove that Miami made the right decision. He looks to lead the St. John’s boys basketball varsity team to a WCAC and DCSAA championship.
