Concert Review: Harry Styles

“There’s no J Street!” yelled Harry Styles last Saturday, September 18th, during his D.C leg of “Love on Tour” for his 2019 album Fine Line. Early in the show, Harry decided to tell stories about his experiences in Washington D.C., specifically how shocked he was to learn that J street just does not exist while taking a walk through the city. 

While Capital One Arena was at full capacity, the COVID-19 pandemic was still an enormous factor. Masks were always required inside the concert and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test through the Clear app was required at the doors. Despite the requirements, Scarlett Lane ‘25 loved the night. She said, “My favorite part was Harry’s interaction with the crowd and his excitement for [everyone] being there after a long wait during the pandemic.” 

Besides telling his fans about his long walks through the city before the concert, Harry sang almost twenty of his most popular songs including the 2012 hit “What Makes You Beautiful” from his previous band One Direction. Harry opened the night with his top hits “Golden” followed by “Carolina” from his debut album Harry Styles and later “Adore You”. 

I had the pleasure of being at the concert that Saturday and was pleasantly surprised at his incredible vocals and stage presence. Harry was able to sing songs while also interacting with his fans throughout the night at the same time. My favorite part was when he combined his songs “Two Ghosts” and “Falling” which beautifully flowed together on the piano. I also loved his interactions with his fans specifically when he sang happy birthday directly to a fan in the middle of his performance. Harry has a lot of love for his fans and I was extremely satisfied when I left Capital One Arena.

Fans of Harry Styles had waited almost a year and a half through the pandemic for the opportunity to see Harry live and he did not disappoint. “Watermelon Sugar” and “Kiwi’ rounded out the setlist leaving his fans emotional after Harry exited the stage. The Grammy-award-winning singer will travel to major cities on the east coast before traveling back west to end “Love on Tour” in California.
