Five things to do around DC in February
With the second month of 2019 already here, some people are getting restless with the cold and being trapped indoors. Especially with the very high amount of snow days that St. John’s has had, many students don’t know how to fill the long days. However, there are lots of things going on in and around DC during February that you might not know about – from Wizards games to parades, here are five things to do around DC in February.
Wizards Game
Located in the Capital One Arena, a Wizards game is a great way to spend your evening. You can go with some friends for food, drinks, and a night of fun. Located on the edge of Chinatown, it has a lot of great restaurants ranging from cheap to expensive. Cheap tickets are available through StubHub or wherever you find tickets.
Chinese New Year Festival
Located in Gallery Place, the Chinatown Community Cultural Center is hosting a Lunar New Year Festival. On Feb. 10, come for an afternoon of live cultural performances, family events, and educational activities, as well as food and drinks. Additionally, catch the Chinese New Year Parade before or after attending. The festival goes from 12-5 pm, and admission is free for everyone.
Big Apple Circus
This one-ring circus runs from Feb. 14 to March 14 and features high wire artists, acrobats, roller skaters, and more. Near the Gaylord National Harbor, this circus is perfect for all ages and interests. Tickets are available on the Big Apple Circus website, and everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the fun for a night of amazement.
Atlas Intersections Festival
From Feb. 21 to March 3, the Atlas Intersections Festival features theatre, dance, poetry, music, film, writing, sculpture, photography, and art of all kinds. Located at the Atlas Performance Center on H Street, this annual festival is loved by all and has something for everyone. Whether you come for the launch party on Feb. 21 or the family fun day on March 2, you can find an artist, performance, or piece to love.
Black History Month at the National Museum of African American History and Culture
Celebrate Black History Month with activities and events at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Events range from NBA Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar discussing his latest book, Becoming Kareem: Growing Up On and Off the Court to “Taking the Stage,” to a discussion on the play Cramton, 1961, which centers on the debate in Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium between Baynard Rustin and Malcolm X.
