Good Eats on Wisconsin Avenue: The Top Five Spots to Eat After School

One of the most popular after-school spots for students to hang out is Friendship Heights. Many students take either the free student shuttle from SJC or take the E4 Metro bus to Friendship Heights Station. Here are the top five spots to hang out in Friendship after school:

Booeymonger

Booeymonger is a cute restaurant located on Wisconsin Avenue that specializes in gourmet sandwiches and subs. They also have a great frozen yogurt selection, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and plenty of pastries and snacks. Tons of students enjoy chilling in the annex of Booeymonger and doing their homework on the free wifi. Located at a convenient spot in Friendship, the restaurant is a welcoming place with a variety of foods to try for good prices.

McDonald’s

For most students, McDonald’s is the cheapest, most accessible fast food restaurant to go to after school. Located in the Friendship Heights Metro Station, it is accessible and an incredibly easy place to meet friends. McDonald’s serves a variety of foods including vegan and gluten-free options. Because it is located within Mazza Gallerie, the restaurant is next to a movie theater, chocolate shop, and a TJ Maxx, which are only a few of the shopping or pastime options in the Friendship Heights area.
Most students also find McDonald’s to be a popular after-school spot because of its free wifi. Many students enjoy shakes and fries with friends in the sleek booths of the restaurant while also getting their homework done.
Not only is this McDonald’s accessible, but affordable. Many students would much rather pay five dollars for a large shake, burger, and fries than spend twenty dollars somewhere like Booeymonger or Pete’s Pizza. While the quality of the food could be considered questionable and inconsistent, McDonald’s has prices that remain consistent and low.

Cosí

Conveniently located right next door to Booeymonger, Cosí is a tucked away treasure on the streets of Friendship Heights. It may look small and insignificant from the outside, but on the inside Cosí is an elegant, yet chill restaurant with tons of potential and opportunity. The restaurant serves a variety of foods from breakfast to dinner including sandwiches, soups, salads, bread bowls, and sides.
While it may seem sleek and fancy, Cosí actually offers really great prices that fit within most students’ budgets. This restaurant also offers a great spot to hang out after school, but all of their menus could be considered “healthy food”. Most students think of “healthy food” as a stale salad or an apple, but Cosí finds ways to make average food not only healthy but delicious.

Pete’s Pizza

Pete’s is a small walk from Friendship Heights, but their pizza is worth the wait. True to their name, Pete’s offers New Haven style pizza and gelato and is a good place for lunch, dinner, or just a snack. They offer a variety of unique pizzas with cool toppings, like broccoli, peppers, and clams, and offer fast and comfortable service. Aside from pizza, Pete’s offers salads, pasta and soups. Pete’s also offers delivery, for an easy but good quality dinner option.

Cheesecake Factory

The Cheesecake Factory is a great restaurant that specializes in large portions of pasta, salad, soups, and other tasty dishes. While this restaurant is considered higher than many student’s price range, The Cheesecake Factory is a great place to eat for special occasions. Many students choose to eat here before homecoming and prom, as it’s accessible and fancier than your average chain franchise. The Cheesecake Factory offer a wide variety of foods including gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options, but are most well known for their dessert. Living up to its name, Cheesecake Factory boasts over 30 types of Cheesecake, along with regular cake and ice cream. Overall, the food portions live up to the price.
