The 67th annual Grammys were held in Los Angeles on February 2nd, 2025. Although this years celebration was similar to many in the past, with Trevor Noah as the host and many familiar faces, there was one very different aspect. Much of the show was attributed to the L.A. wildfires in an effort to raise more support and awareness as well as raise money for recovery efforts.
Beyoncé addded more Grammys to her collection, winning three this year. One for Cowboy Carter as album of the year, Country Album of the Year and Country Duo/Group Performance for her song with Miley Cyrus.
The top winner of the night was Kendrick Lamar, who walked away with five Grammys for his dis track “Not Like Us.” He won for Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Rap song , Rap Performance and Record of the Year.
Alongside these amazing wins, there were some very impactful speeches and overall winners. Doechii won best rap album, becoming the third women to do so since the beginning of the award. Alicia Keys received the Dr. Dre Global Impact award and is the worst women to do so and advocated for diversity, equity and inclusion continuing within the music industry. Chappell Roan won best new artist, and went onstage, read from a notebook to speak about injustices in the music industry. She called out record labels for not paying livable wages and providing healthcare to upcoming artists. Lady Gaga advocated for trans rights and that the queer community as a whole deserves to be lifted up by music, not put down.
The performances this year were also on point, with Chappell Roan singing “Pink Pony Club.” Billie Eilish, although leaving the Grammys with no awards, sang “Birds of a Feather.” Charli XCX preformed “Von Dutch” and “Guess” alongside Alex Cosani and other models. Sabrina Carpenter also preformed “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please,” paying homage to Goldie Hawn.
Finally, throughout the tribute section of the night, Cynthia Erivo performed Frank Sinatras “Fly Me to the Moon” in memory of Quincy Jones, the record producer who passed away last November. In honor of Liam Paynes death, Chris Martin sang “All My Love.” Although this performance could’ve gone in a different direction, with an unknown performer was supposed to sing a stripped down version of “Through the Dark.” However, the performance was still a beautiful tribute.
All in all, this years Grammy celebration was a gorgeous tribute to the L.A. wildfires, passed away artists, while still honoring those who won awards alongside amazing performances.
