Letter from the editor: Grace Harvey '23
As we approach the end of my final year at St. John’s, it is time to reflect on my time at The Sabre. I joined the Sabre News team during my junior year. I had always wanted to work on a school newspaper, and the fact that it took place during school made it even more appealing to me. I loved writing stories and editing videos. The organized chaos of The Sabre homeroom was always a great start to my day.
At the end of my junior year, I was named managing editor. This meant that I would be assisting Mr. Smith and Mr. Keaney in running the show. I would help write scripts, edit stories, and manage the weekly news show. I absolutely loved this role this year. It has been such a fun experience, and I would not trade it for anything.
As I have spent time covering the school’s events, I have seen both growth in the school and areas that can still be improved. I have witnessed the school become a more inclusive place for all students, and while we still have a long way to go, it is worth celebrating the small steps that have been made. These past four years have been very difficult, and reporting on the community coming together, even in times of hardship and isolation, has always been inspiring.
I would like to give a special shout-out to a few people who made my Sabre experience great. I want to express my gratitude to Grace Lane, our editor-in-chief of The Sabre. I have loved working with you, and being part of the team of Graces has meant so much to me. I also want to thank all of my fellow seniors for always making me laugh in homeroom. And, of course, I want to give a special thank you to Mr. Smith and Mr. Keaney. Thank you for everything you have done for all of your students. We all really appreciate it, and The Sabre would not be what it is without you.
I am so excited to see where The Sabre goes next year. It has been such a great experience, and I am incredibly grateful. Thank you for reading.
