New Faculty Spotlight: Ms. Urick
Ms. Urick joined the staff at St. John’s this fall and is excited to share her talents with the community. The new and friendly face in the English Department is teaching Honors American Literature and English 12. She is also the new assistant JV field hockey coach and head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach.
Ms. Urick has plenty of experience, because she started teaching right after finishing school herself. “I joined a nonprofit right out of college that combined coaching and teaching, and it helped me blossom my love for helping kids with things I have gone through and learned throughout life.”
Before Ms. Urick joined the St. John’s staff, she taught and coached at National Cathedral School. She coached lacrosse at NCS and worked in the Athletics Department. Her team had many successes, including two ISL championships. Ms. Urick is passionate about what she does, and that shines through in how she constantly cares and works hard for her students.
Better known as Coach U on the field, Ms. Urick is prepared to bring energy and intensity to the field hockey and lacrosse programs. As she did not know coaching field hockey was an option when she applied, she said she was pleasantly surprised to be offered the position. She is “beyond excited and happy to be a part of the team” this season. The JV team is off to a great start and is full of excitement for their busy schedule.
In the spring, other WCAC teams should watch out for St. John’s lacrosse, as Coach Urick is the new head coach. She intends to revive the team this season by “working in the off season and giving training importance while keeping the sport at the center of everything we do. I intend to evaluate the girls on the team so I can further accentuate their strengths and make sure that everyone works together and acts as their own puzzle piece.”
