Performers shine at Open Mic Night

Every year, St. John’s hosts an Open Mic Night featuring student performers. A variety of musicians gather together and perform covers, original songs, poems, and instrumental performances.

To be part of the show, students apply to Mrs. Fernandez, director of vocal music, and she reviews their performance plans and accepts or rejects their application. The only requirements are that students have a family friendly act and have contacted Mrs. Fernandez ahead of time.

Each year, the acts seem to get better and better, but this year new and returning acts completely blew the audience out of the park. “This year’s Open Mic was hands down the best so far. I really liked the ambiance and the hot chocolate, it made the whole thing feel very real,” said Emily Burke ’21.

Tons of work goes into setup for this special night, from hanging lights to setting up instruments, and the choral arts program banded together to pull off the beautiful setting in a maximum of three hours.
