Poll - Student Political Survey

After the Vice Presidential Debate, we polled students to determine who they are voting for and what issues are important to them.

Starting things off, let’s get into our audience. We received 330 responses, who took on average 4 minutes to respond.

Half of our respondents are from Maryland, while 36% are from DC, and only 14% were from Virginia.

60% of our voters are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, while 27% are voting for Donald Trump and JD Vance. Only 11% are undecided.

52% self-identified as Democratic, 23% as Republican, and 17% as Independent.

One half identify as male and 45% identify as female. Among men, 42% and 44% are voting for Harris and Trump, respectively. However, among women, 77% are voting for Harris, with only 11% voting for Trump. Among those who declined to answer, 43% are voting for Harris and 29% are voting for Trump or undecided.

Our respondents were not single issue voters, and each marked an average of 5 issues they primarily cared about. Of those issues, crime, specifically gun violence and drugs, was the leading concern with the economy, specifically inflation and jobs, in close second. Immigration, foreign policy, and reproductive rights also ranked high among respondents.

Among Democrats, 17% cited crime as a primary concern, 14% on reproductive freedom. The environment, economy, cultural issues, and foreign policy were all almost tied for third. Among Republicans, 17% cite the economy as a primary concern and 16% on the immigration. Foreign policy, crime, and government debt were almost all tied for third.
