Rakim Jarrett '20 preparing for the NFL Draft
St. John’s Alum Rakim Jarrett ‘20 aims to continue his career as a professional football player in the NFL. After having a successful career in high school as a wide receiver, this prepared Jarrett to continue his athletics at the University of Maryland which he chose over many other universities. Jarrett only played three seasons with Maryland and after this season, his junior season, he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Leaving Maryland early for Jarrett was him wanting to be the best and in order for that to happen he wanted to play against the best of the best. As the NFL combine was approaching in Indianapolis, Indiana, there was something to prove. “I wanted to prove that I belonged and should be mentioned with the tops wide receivers,” Jarrett said.
While training in South Florida for two month’s, Jarrett’s journey before hand was different then the people he was around. Unlike others, “I did it the usual way that is far less traveled than a lot of my peers, but I’m still in the position to chase my dreams,” Jarrett said. For the SJC community, Jarrett’s message for you is to continue to believe in yourself and not to forget what got you to where you are today.
