The 101st Regimental Ball
On Saturday, March 14, the St. John's Cadet Corps hosted the 101st annual Regimental Ball. The ball was put in place over 100 years ago to commemorate all the members for the hard work they had done over the course of that year.
This event is not only for members of the Cadet Corps but is open to others who want to share this big moment with them and to bring the community together as a whole. Unlike the annual Christmas dinner that is exclusively for members, the Regimental Ball gives the Cadets a chance to bring a date and those who mean something to them. Along with this, there is a dance with the parents. Since St. John's started as an all-boys school, the Cadet Corps was the same way; the dance with senior parents is in place to recognize the hard work that the parents have done for their children to be a part of something big, like the Cadet Corps.
One of the main events of the ball is the senior ceremony of walking down the stairs. While not everyone stops, everyone is still recognized for the work that they have done over the past four years. This is also meant to showcase their successes to their peers who are present while they walk down the stairs. This is also the last specific Cadet Corps recognition for the seniors before graduation.
The final picture of the gallery below showcases Cadet Colonel Daryn Maloni watching over the freshman mascot, Liam Thomas. Thomas's role is important to the ceremony of walking through the Sabre arch, as he represents the past of the Cadet Corps, wearing the original uniform from the beginning of St. John's, since the Cadet Corps was mandatory for all students.
