Six things to do in DC this March
There are always great things happening in DC, always a new exhibit or event to go to. March is a fun time to explore the city with spring just starting and the weather getting a little bit warmer. Here are some suggestions for new and interesting things to do this month.
Celebrate Mardi Gras
Get out and celebrate this fun New Orleans tradition right here in DC. Events take place throughout the city, but one cool option is Mardi Gras at the Wharf. On Saturday, March 2, from 6-8 pm, the District Wharf will be hosting a Mardi Gras parade, dance party, and fireworks show at this pretty location along the Potomac.
Go see the Cherry Blossoms
This annual festival begins March 20 and has many events surrounding the cherry blossoms. Head downtown for some pretty views and fun activities including a kite festival and a parade!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
Many exciting events take place around St. Patrick’s Day, which is officially March 17. One popular choice is ShamrockFest at RFK Stadium. This year’s festival will take place on March 24 with many performances and other activities. Go green for a day at the biggest St. Patrick’s Day festival in the US!
Go to a ball game
The Nats’ season begins on March 28 with a game against the New York Mets. Head to Nats Park for a fun afternoon of baseball and hot dogs. Support our local team at their regular season opener!
Go to a concert
Spring is a great time to go to a stadium concert like those at Capital One Arena. Travis Scott comes to town on March 12 and Ariana Grande will be here on March 25. Or check out the recently opened Anthem to see James Bay on March 8 or Meek Mill on March 21. The Fillmore out in Silver Spring also has a pretty good lineup with acts like Trippie Redd and Ella Mai both playing in March.
Take in a new art exhibit
There are lots of great art museums to explore around the city. ARTECHOUSE is downtown space for innovative art. The current exhibit is Everything in Existence by collective fuse*, which includes immersive art inspired by the theme of eternity. It is open until March 10. Or honor Women’s History Month by visiting a special exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery opening on March 1. The exhibit titled Votes for Women: Portrait of Persistence highlights women’s suffrage in US history.
Get excited for March Madness
This year, you can go to the NCAA championship game without leaving DC. The 2019 Sweet Sixteen will be hosted at the Capital One Arena on March 29 and 31. Get a ticket to support your favorite college team!
