Six things to do in DC this summer
Summer is coming up fast, and that means sun, sand, and way too much free time. If you live in the DC area, you probably already know how easy it is to find something to do on any given day. From festivals to parades to museums, DC has it all. However, with so much to choose from, it can sometimes be tricky to narrow down exactly what you want to do over the summer. To help you plan your best summer yet, here are six things to do around the DC area this summer.
1. Thomas Rhett – June 15
Thomas Rhett is live at Jiffy Lube this summer on June 15. A renowned country artist, Rhett has had 13 songs in the top ten of the Billboard Top Country Songs over his career and will be debuting his new album, Center Point Road, on his 2019 summer tour. As a fan favorite for country music, the turnout should be great, so make sure not to miss this one! Tickets start at $34 for lawn and go up to $108, so this is a concert you shouldn’t miss.
2. Ariana Grande – June 21
Ariana Grande makes an appearance at the Capital One arena this June 21st. As one of the most popular artists of the moment, the concert is sure to be a great show. With 13 songs in the top ten of the the Billboard Top 100, Grande has risen to stardom and her hit single “7 Rings” peaked at number one for two weeks. Tickets are anywhere from $39 to $249 and are sold wherever you get your event tickets.
3. 4th of July Fireworks on the National Mall – July 4
Every year, the Parks Department puts on a can’t-miss display of lights and fireworks for Fourth of July. The fireworks will take place on Constitution Avenue, but with a display this large you can see it from all across the DC and Virginia area. The show starts at approximately 9:09 pm and lasts for about 17 minutes. There will be food trucks and local restaurants located nearby, so you can roll out a blanket on the Mall, grab some food, and watch the fireworks! Admission is free.
4. John Mayer – July 23
John Mayer comes to the Capital One Arena on July 23 for one night only. He’s had 21 songs on the Billboard Top 100 and will be playing his most recent album, The Search for Everything. He’s been sampled by artists such as Common and Kanye West, and he appeared on Kanye’s hidden track from the album Graduation, “Bittersweet Poetry.” Tickets are $69-$169 and selling fast!
5. 2019 Around the World Cultural Food Festival – August 17
Celebrating the rich intercultural diversity of the world around us, the Around the World Cultural Food Festival is an event on the National Mall on August 17. With booths from all around the world, the food fest features one vendor from each country and also includes arts and crafts, showcase performances, and information booths where you can learn about each country. Admission is free and open to all ages
6. Comcast Xfinity Outdoor Film Fest – August 23-26
This summer, outdoor movies return to the Strathmore. Located on the lawn of the Strathmore campus, this event is kid friendly and open to all ages. The movies are Coco on Aug. 23, Black Panther on Aug. 24, The Lion King on Aug. 25, and Wonder Woman on Aug. 26. Tickets are free, and Ridgewell Summer Grill will be at the event for food and drinks.
