SJC begins celebration of the Class of 2019
As the school year comes to a close, St. John’s will dedicate its final days of classes to its 2019 graduates. May 20-24 is Senior Week, with each day featuring a different activity for the seniors before we say goodbye.
Monday’s activity was likely the most anticipated: College Day. That day, every senior got to wear their college apparel for the upcoming four years. This class has students going to universities all around the country with a variety of different environments and school cultures. This day truly signifies the next chapter of our lives before we part ways from St. John’s.
Tuesday is dedicated to our own high school community. We all wear our favorite St. John’s clothes and gear. Since this is the last time we all will go to the same school, it is a special day to honor the place we have called home for the past four years.
Our last day of classes is Wednesday, so we are having our final dress down day. Thursday is our senior picnic, where we all dress up nicely and hang out as a class. Then, all that is left for us are finals, prom, and graduation. As our high school years end, a few students shared how it feels to make it to this moment:
Tim Swope ’19: “Graduating is bittersweet, but also a relief to be certain of your future home for next year. Wearing my college sweatshirt feels a little surreal, because in a couple weeks we’ll be alumni of SJC and ready to go to college, which is exciting to think about.”
Grace Dufour ’19: “It’s bittersweet to leave SJC, but I’m excited for the future! And I’m excited to show off my school on Monday along with my classmates, seeing where they’re going for the next four years and that we get to all celebrate together.”
Zubby Oboh ’19: “If I had to sum up what it feels like to be graduating in just a few weeks with one word, it would be surreal. It’s quite crazy to think that I’ve been watching the previous seniors over the past three years wear their college shirts and thinking it would be forever before my turn, but now it’s here. I even remember my brother telling me that it happens so quickly, and he definitely was right about that. It’s bittersweet to know that it’s all coming to an end, but I’m more than grateful to have spent my high school years with the Class of 2019.”
Although some cannot wait to leave, while others are not ready to go, it is clear that right now is a special time for all of us. We made it this far and are almost finished, so it only feels right to celebrate each other and our time here at St. John’s.
