SJC Board of Trustees: AC to be installed in Gallagher and Roth Gyms
St. John’s Board of Trustees met on Friday, Oct. 5, and The Sabre had the opportunity to catch up with Mr. Mancabelli, SJC president, about the meeting.
The Board of Trustees is made up of 25 members and meets three times a year. The Lasallian Committee is an important one, as it is the first to speak at every board meeting. This is so that when the board makes decisions, they keep in mind the mission of the school.
Mr. Mancabelli said that one topic the board discussed, presented by Mr. Themistos, was the school’s financial status. Currently, St. John’s is fully enrolled and in strong financial shape. In addition, Mr. Themistos discussed how the senior leadership has impressed the faculty, as well as the new freshman class, and the overall energy of the school.Mr. Mancabelli agrees that the year has gotten off to a great start. “It has been wonderful…I truly believe that the senior leadership makes a difference. What they are doing to lead the school is amazing.”
Perhaps the most exciting topic for students that was brought up during the meeting is the installation of air conditioning in both the Roth and Gallagher gymnasiums. The board approved it, and Mr. Mancabelli said, “If all goes as planned with permits, we would start the process at the end of the basketball season. If all goes well, we will have it for the opening of next year.”
This is big news, as neither gym has ever had air conditioning. While it is still a work in progress, hopefully construction will begin soon.
Mr. Mancabelli concluded the interview by stating that he “is grateful for the leadership of the Board of Trustees – without their support, this project would not be possible.”
