SJC freshman raises money for Ukraine

During all lunch periods on April 11th through April 13th, Logan Brooks ’25 organized a fundraiser to support Ukrainian refugees affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. The funds which were collected during all three days were totaled to $375 and will be sent to a the La Salle International Foundation, an organization which remains dedicated to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

The La Salle International Foundation uses its funds to “directly support humanitarian actions by provisioning shelters, food, clothing, medical supplies, and other refugee needs.” (https:// www.lasalleinternational.org/project/ukraine/).

Brooks was not only inspired to organize the fundraiser because of her strong desire to help people but also to show her peers that “something little can make a big difference.” She feels that wearing a bracelet colored blue and yellow, after the Ukrainian flag, with the words “faith,” “hope” and “love” imprinted around the bracelet is “very inspiring” and can serve as a beacon of hope for the St. John’s community during a situation which is “devastating in every way.” After conducting research online, Brooks chose the charity primarily because its mission “spoke to the [Lasallian community] at St. John’s.”
