Things to do in the DMV for the holidays
During the Christmas season, the DMV area is filled with activities and amazing things to witness. Here are a few things you can try doing this holiday season.
Holiday in the Park
Holiday in the Park is a Christmas winter wonderland set up in Six Flags American in Upper Marlboro, MD. It opened on Nov. 23 and it closes on Jan. 1. There’s so much to do there for all ages! You can enjoy the Christmas lights (there are just over a million). There are holiday shows called “Dancing through the Holidays,” “Story of the Nativity,” and “Saving Christmas.” They are located in their heated theater, so you’ll always be warm! There’s also an option to take a trip to the North Pole to go see Santa. If you get hungry, you can always dine at Mrs. Claus’ Indoor Kitchen with meals and holiday treats. Lastly, for the thrill seekers, a select few of Six Flags’s rollercoasters and rides will be open.
Enchant Christmas
Enchant Christmas is located in Nats Park and is tons of fun! There is something there for the whole family. There is an amazing Christmas light maze, where you help Santa save Christmas by helping him find his reindeer. You can see the 100-foot-tall tree decorated with about 250,000 lights. If you are into ice skating, you can skate along a lazy river-style trail. There’s a Christmas market where you can buy all different types of food and drinks from local restaurants. For movie watchers, you can bring a blanket and watch a Christmas movie. They play Christmas classics such as The Polar Express, Elf, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Zoolights
Zoolights at the National Zoo offers free admission and runs from Nov. 29 to Jan. 1. Zoolights has music performances, tasty holiday treats, and several opportunities to get your Christmas shopping done. As for the lights, there are over 500,000 environmentally safe LED lights that transform the zoo into a Christmas winter wonderland.
Georgetown GLOW
Georgetown GLOW is for people interested in art! It runs from Dec. 6 to Jan. 5, from 5 to 10 pm. This artwork comes from local artists and internationally known artists. The area is filled with glowing artwork.
Christmas at the Harbor
The Harbor has a wide range of things you can do. There is a variety of shops and restaurants. The Gaylord is located at the Harbor, and they have an indoor winter wonderland with over two million pounds of hand-carved ice slides, sculptures, and a live carving area.
